It feels like this rack was designed to fit in as small of a box as possible, trading off other aspects. It comes together fairly well, though the screws may need locktite eventually so the rack doesn’t loosen up with use. There are six screws used for each section, plus two to attach the end pieces. That means several spots to watch. At any rate, it seems cheap to have not included a drop of locktite on the screws from the factory.Despite how tight you get the screws, though, the point where the two sides come together is a loose fit, so even though the two sides each screw together tight enough, they don’t come together nearly as well. If the box had been twice as long, the bottom bars and longer sides of the hoops could have been solid pieces. I can only imagine how rickety the 5-bike version must be if it uses the same design with individual sections.I have another rack that I’ve been using, and I ordered this one so I could double my capacity. The two are night and day in terms of durability. I also have experience making my own rack, having welded one for a fat bike. Both racks cost more but have held up to a lot of use. This one is okay, but I expect to have to tighten it regularly.I do have to acknowledge that when it’s assembled with all the screws tight, it works well. My concerns are just about durability. The other positive aspect I would note is that you can reverse the direction of each hoop, so the bikes can next to each other or facing each other. If you’re looking for a bike rack and cost is your primary consideration, this isn’t a bad option. If you want a rack that won’t require so much pampering, I’d look elsewhere. I give it 3.5 stars because for the price it’s decent, though they could have at least included a drop of locktite from the factory to save the user the hassle.
