SmartPak is known for offering quality, tasty animal products, and their SmartLytes electrolyte paste is another great product. In Texas, we have very hot weather, and our horses can easily get dehydrated, especially during the summer months. All horses I’ve tested this paste on accepted it readily, and nobody spat out very much. I do notice an improvement in their hydration levels and their happiness when given SmartLytes on really hot days.Giving SmartLytes is very similar to administering dewormer paste. If your horse doesn’t like paste tubes, you can also find SmartLytes in powder or pellet form. I volunteer at a therapeutic riding center that has several older therapy horses. We give electrolyte powder to an elderly horse in his food daily, and it works very well at keeping him healthy. On really difficult weather days, he also get SmartLytes paste, and his ability to handle Texas heat has greatly improved since we started the supplements.On a personal note, I would love to see banana-free flavor options. Due to my banana allergy, I must wear a mask and gloves while handling the product. I understand that the banana is appealing to many horses, but until the label clearly states if banana is one of the “artificial” flavors, for all I know, it might be natural banana flavor. I cannot risk the hives and anaphylactic shock, and will keep wearing gloves when handling this electrolyte paste. If you were not gifted with multiple food allergies like me, it is fine to administer SmartLytes with bare hands.Thanks for another great product, SmartPak!
